The Scout Association provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for 400,000 young people aged 6-25. Internationally, we have over 28 million young people enjoying the benefits of Scouting across 216 countries. Personal development means promoting the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being of the individual, helping them achieve their full potential. In Scouting, we believe that young people develop most when they are 'learning by doing,' when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves.
If you still think Scouting is just about boys, tents and woggles, then take a look at the Scout Associations video- you might just change your mind. With over 200 activities on offer and half a million members (including 60,000 girls) Scouting offers everyday adventure to young people and adult volunteers.
237th Birmingham Scout Group is extremely well supported and currently runs two Beaver Colonies (ages six to eight), two Cub Packs (ages eight to ten), two Scout Troops (ages ten to fourteen) and two of the District’s Explorer Units (ages fourteen to eighteen). In total over 150 girls and boys enjoy weekly Section meetings at the Group. Including our adult support we have over 200 members.
We also have a fantastic group of leaders and parents who support the Group and help run all of the activities that we offer. Many of our current leaders used to attend the Group as Scouts and Explorers themselves.
The 1st Castle Bromwich Scout Group was established in 1932 and, this year, celebrates its 80th anniversary. The Group is now well established and is the largest in the Spitfire District covering the North and East of Birmingham.
